The Best Residential Wind Turbine For Your House

Subscribe to Home Wind Turbine

Hi! A small wind turbine for your house is a great investment and if you do it right you will laugh at your energy bill...

Residential Wind Turbines, that… doesn't have blades?

My mom said she wants to find a wind turbine, and her description of it is "it looks like a pencil, there aren't any blades". She says it spins when the wind hits it, I have no idea what she's talking about or how to find it. Googled it and found residential wind turbines with blades, but she said that's not it.
Where can I find one of those or does it even exist?
Thanks.

You might want to merely google, "bladeless wind turbines". There are a few options that are avialable and I'm adding a link to one of the pages below. I have heard of other "bladeless" options including oscelating thin strips of metal.

I think she is talking about one of the vertical axis wind turbines.

The one that looks most like a pencil is one designed by a guy called Savonius. The "Savonius" wind turbine looks like a S shaped tower

The trouble is, the vertical axis designs aren't near as efficient as the 3 bladed wind turbines. So the cost per kilowatt-hr is higher for them
